Coronel is an artist whose work has contributed to defining an extraordinary state in Latin American culture: a stage led by a generation of visual artists born in the 1920s and '30s who planted the seeds of postmodern art in America. The painter, sculptor, engraver and collector was born in Zacatecas in 1931 is connected to the Breakaway Generation, a group of artists who rebelled against the political and conceptual stagnation that nationalist art had been reduced to at the end of the 1950s.
